Tradition started by Yuri Gagarin in 1961 prior to his historic flight Vostok-1, continued by Russian Cosmonauts and all the countries Astronauts, who are flown to the ISS on board of the Russian Soyuz Spacecraft. The first time flight participants each planted a tree in the Alley of Cosmonauts outside The Cosmonaut Hotel where the Soyuz crew spent the final days before the departure to orbit.
